Its complicated
The other day while watching television with my granddaughters, of course Sponge Bob cartoons, (is it something else to watch?) I realized that the way that good and evil are represented hasn’t changed much since my childhood. This particular episode had Sponge Bob debating whether to get back at someone or not. Like magic, a little angel and a little devil appear on each of his shoulders and then the fighting began.
Here, in the right shoulder, the angel of good, halo, wings, the whole nine yards, whispering in Sponge Bob’s ear "do not do it, to err is human to forgive divine”, and if you succumb to temptation you will go to hell"
Here, in the left shoulder, the little devil, of course red attire, horns, pitch fork and the works, whispering in Sponge Bob’s other ear, "do it, go for it, its pay back time, you wont go to hell, but you are going to give him hell.
--Look little devil, said the little angel, stop giving him bad advise, you wont be there when he feels remorse.
The little devil again to Sponge Bob.
-- Don’t be a fool, don’t listen to the angel, you got nothing to loose, you loose one friend you gain another one.The fight between the angel and the devil go on and on about who is right or who is wrong, of course everything in life depends on the circumstances.
And so I ask myself, “is revenge good”? Is there any satisfaction in it? Revenge is not nothing new, Is as old as Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.
There are several references to revenge through out history
• In revenge, as in the love, the woman is more barbaric than the man. Nietzsche •
"there is not better revenge of an offense that to forget it." Juan Luis Vives
I do not speak of revenges neither pardons, the oversight is the only revenge and the only pardon. Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986) Argentine Writer
"The revenge makes hate last forever ." Confucius
And now my favorite one –
The revenge is a dish that is better served cold." Phrase from The Dangerous Liaison

And 1000s of other phrases, all naming revenge, but revenge anyway. Just thinking about it and weaving every step gives you that high of enjoyment.
Your upbringing will determine whether revenge is carried out or not. Although everyone of us has listen to the devil even if we later repent. I have a theory that no one is 100% good or 100% evil.
What happens when the little angel wins? We do nothing…. but will always have doubt inside of us, if we should have done it or not? And if the little devil wins and if we go thru with the revenge? Are we willing to accept the consequences of our actions?
According to a survey, the #1 reason for revenge is been dumped. I’m not surprise at the different ways in which people choose to achieve their revenge. Pablo Escobar, the great drug Czar, resorted to murder, others opt for defamation, and still others go the way of the super natural. Some let God handle it. What about atheists?

As for me I believe firmly that what you do in this life time is paid for in his life time, good or bad. Does the saying, “what goes around comes around”
And then you will think of my favorite saying
The revenge is a dish that is better served cold."
Or perhaps you will scream from the top of your lungs for the whole world to listen
Payback is a bitch
